re:{Tripdate}

8/28: The bus will leave from the Doylestown Courthouse parking lot (See Doylestown Bus below) at 5am SHARP so we are there in time and have extra time for the Metro. The trip cost is $30 per person and we will be collecting $8 per person on the bus for the metro day pass. The bus will take us to Greenbeltsville and park there for the day. KTP will be buying the Metro passes en masse to give to our passengers on the bus so they have a day's pass for the Metro.  We will take the metro to the Foggy Bottom station, which is the closest to the Lincoln Memorial. Union Station is way too far away for parking.

9/12:  We are leaving at 5am SHARP from the same place as above.  The trip is also $30, but we will park at Union Station and will walk to the Capitol.  Note: This event will take place on a Sunday and a non-denominational service will take place @10am at the Washington Monument with a march back to the capital to follow.

Additional information for both bus trips:

If you are unfamiliar with the Doylestown starting location please take the time now to go to the area so you know where the parking lot is and where to park. We must leave on time.  We will be home between 10-11 pm that night which means we will most probably leave at 6 pm.  We will make a stop on the way to D.C. and on the way back home as well.

The bus leaders will pass a bag around on the return trip home for a bus driver gratuity. Please be generous.

Please bring with you:

“A cell phone
“A camera or videocam
“(9/12 only) Protest signs (please keep them civil and try to stay away from Obama (even though that’s almost impossible to do)
“Flags are acceptable so long as they are not on metal poles (wooden suggested) and must have dull ends
“Bagged lunch w/drink (please make sure to pick-up your trash)
“Sunscreen and hat
“Bagged chair - Please remember you will be carrying this stuff all day so, travel as lightly as possible!
“Change (not the kind we can believe in but, coins, just in case)
“Consider inclement weather clothing and comfortable walking shoes
“Ladies, DO NOT BRING A HANDBAG! Put what is necessary in your pocket or a backpack.

We will have cold bottled water in a cooler on the bus for you to take at any time and some first- aid supplies for minor injuries.

We’d like you to take the time and think about a few things now; possibly there will be people there protesting us. What will you do if someone gets in your face? What if they call you a racist or swear at you? What if they start swinging their arms? You need to think now of how you will deal with such things. There will be police around. Wherever you are take notice of where a cop is just in case. Stay in groups and, at the very least, stay in pairs. If anything should happen, please call or have someone call the bus leader who will call me and we will take care of things immediately. Your safety is very important to us.  We have just seven of the many buses of folks coming to DC for this protest. I assure you, you will be thrilled to see so many with like minds. Talk to people and make connections. We will all need each other later. If this is your first large rally, be prepared for a very memorable experience.
